Thank Heavens, Spring is
here!
Although we suffered lots of snow and rain this winter, it has done
wonders for the wildflowers and gardens.
Here is what we expect to enjoy
Blood root, trout lily and spring beauties are already flowering. Early
April, amongst others, there will be trilliums, foam flowers, wood
poppies, phlox and of course dogwoods and red buds in bloom. From
mid-April on through May, you'll see cinnamon fern, fire pinks, pink
phlox and beautiful ladies' slippers. May is also the time for Spring
colors - from Twin Arches or any of the overlooks, you will be
overwhelmed by the variety of greens as the leaves come out. They are
truly as breathtaking as the Fall colors.
With the large number of pines that we have lost to the pine beetle, we
have alot more sunlight getting to the mountain laurel and
rhododendrons - we have never seen them so good.
The Lodge will also don its fair weather gear - loads of flower tubs
and hanging baskets. Whilst we're still enjoying a wonderful display of
daffodils in the woodland, Julia's busily preparing for planting up.
April through early June is the time for white water rafting.
Difficulty decreases as time goes on. Click on activities and you'll
find Sheltowee's contact details.
Enjoy a very special meal on the upper deck looking out on the
woodlands. Most evenings we eat outside, untroubled by mosquitoes
thanks to our fat bats. In May, there is usually the added treat of
flying squirrels visiting the bird table to feed.
FULL PAGE ARTICLE IN TRAIL RIDER
In Spring, Garth Rumsmoke visited the campgrounds and accommodations
for people trail riding in Big South Fork. We are very proud of his
article about Wildwood Lodge in the September/October 2008 edition. We
were delighted that he chose to feature us in this very popular
magazine.
WIRELESS DSL INTERNET ACCESS FOR GUESTS
We are happy to announce that we have a wireless
access point for guests in the Guests' sitting room. Now, whilst we
know
that most of our guests are here to "getaway", we realize that there
are some who can't get by without their daily WWW fix. And we do
understand that our guests here on business are not even allowed to get
away...
GUEST BOOK
We have an on line
guest
book. We and future guests
will be pleased to receive your comments after your stay.
JULIA'S NATURAL ART PIECES

Julia
spices her hikes with Flo (the dog) by collecting lovely natural
artifacts - at the right time of the year, her pockets are full of
Zip locks and her "finds". She carefully cures and hoards these until
winter halts any outdoor activity. Then she lovingly creates her craft
pieces out of all the beautiful things that Nature provides at Big
South Fork such as fungi, seed heads, shells, buds, insects,
butterflies...
Most of the bedrooms have samples on the walls and now, by popular
demand, we have hung pieces for sale on the wall of the upper corridor.
As most of you, we are trying to plan our future so we have started the
Senile Sisters' Souvenirs Shop to build up our assisted living
fund! You will find in the lobby the fruit of our labor
during
the bitter cold winter days -enjoy!
VIDEO LIBRARY
All of the rooms and cabins are equipped with VCRs. We have
built
a large video library so that you will have a great choice of movies if
you want to borrow them from the Lodge. Some rooms and cabins have a
DVD player as well.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT INSPECTION
The latest Inspection on May 7 2010 resulted in a 98% score! We
are
happy that outside controllers
confirm the efforts we make to provide you with a clean and healthy
place for you to stay.
PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE AREA
Wildwood Lodge displays photographs of the natural wonders
of Big South Fork and Pickett State Park. Our guests include
professional and trained, amateur photographers who stay with us to
capture the beauty of the area. You may purchase greeting cards and
framed photos at the Lodge.
