Roger Nelson for Sheriff 2010

My name is Roger Nelson. I am running for Sheriff of Jackson County in August 2010.

I am the son of Vina Nelson and the late Milford Nelson of Dodson Branch. I have one sister, Lisa Knight, and one brother, the late Gary Nelson. 

I am a retired Criminal Investigator for the Tennessee Highway Patrol. I have 30+ years experience in law enforcement. During this time I worked undercover in narcotics, as a drug interdiction officer and as a dog handler and trainer. I instructed at the Donelson Training Academy for drug interdiction, auto theft and search and seizure.

I started a restaurant from scratch in Kingston, Tennessee. I handled all aspects of this from purchasing equipment to hiring and overseeing the staff. I have built several houses and renovated many more.

I feel that when all these elements are added together it more than qualifies me to fill the position of Sheriff. 
I realize this position requires more than law enforcement experience. The Sheriff is an administrator who deals with budgetary issues, personnel issues as well as currant law enforcement issues.

If I am elected to this position, I will treat people the way I would want to be treated. My officers will be respectful and professional. I realize that the Sheriffs Office is there to serve and protect the public. The people of Jackson County should not, and will not, be afraid or hesitant to call on the Sheriffs Department for any reason. Officers will patrol all areas of the county instead of just a few and will not be speeding around the county while just on regular patrol. Burglaries and thefts will be diligently investigated and officers will update citizens on the status of these investigations. The drug problem in Jackson County will be one of the top priorities of law enforcement. I realize that drug abuse affects more than just the one with the addiction.

If I am elected I want to hear from you. Talk to me about your community. You know your part of the county better than anyone. If you think there is a problem, let me know about it. It has been my experience that some of the most informative information comes from concerned citizens. 

I really believe that I can make Jackson County a safer and better place for all of us. My family and I live here just as yours do. I am asking you for the chance to make a difference in the present and future of this beautiful place we all call home.
